I really began music with piano lessons from Mrs. Pagio, but considering I barely remember any of it, nor was I the best student, I'm going to start my musical career as a drummer at Bradley Middle School in San Antonio, Texas. I was in the 6th Grade Honors Concert Band where I was taught how to hit a drum and crash a cymbal by a trumpet player, Mr. Schultz. The next year I moved on to the 7th Grade Honors Concert Band and started up in the 7th Honors Jazz Band on the drumset (I went in never playing before.)
My family moved to the DC area and I joined Robinson's 8th Symphonic Band under the guidance of Ms. Gammon. I joined the jazz band, which was led by my favorite teacher Mr. Wright. Moving next door to the high school band room, I was in Robinson's Symphonic Band my whole High School tenure. Mr. Schoonover was the conductor for my first 3 years, and Mr. Stokes was my senior conductor. I was in the Jazz Band as the secondary (maybe even third-important) drummer with Mr. McCarthy as the director. The next year I was the main drummer with Mr. Wright back in charge. I was also in the marching band.
When I went off to college, I tried to keep myself in the whole band atmosphere. I only lasted as a Marching Royal Duke for a day, but I stayed a whole semester in the Concert Band and Percusion Ensemble.
