Life of the Common was a band created by Ben Powell when he started at JMU. He found drummer Adam Lee and singer Matt Walkley eventually but they were in search of a bassist. Throughout my time at JMU i would randomly put up flyers looking for like-minded people to start jamming with. The LOTC guys found my flyer and asked if I wanted to be their bassist. They sent me some of their stuff, and I was impressed enough to give it a go. At the practice, in Ben's basement, I met the guys who turned out to be really cool people. I auditioned and they officially asked me to join them and I said yes. And why not? They were great musicians, cool guys, and already had a following/gigs/cd coming out. After awhile I started getting disillusioned with the modern rock slant the guys wanted to continue down. I guess the big problem was I never really felt like I was an equal member - just the hired bassist. I eventually decided to quit, and the LOTC guys found a quick replacement and continued for another year or so, until they ultimately broke up.
